Mrs. Nosbusch Announces Her Retirement

Dear University School friends and families,

 

Today I share the bittersweet news that Pamela Nosbusch, head of Middle School, will retire at the end of the 2018-19 school year. It’s hard to imagine this place without her! Her incredible 41-year career here has spanned multiple roles, from French teacher to world languages department chair, academic dean and, most recently, head of Middle School. She has truly shaped the heart of our school, and has had such a positive impact on so many of you and your families.

 

Pam has always been a trailblazer—she was part of the first group of women admitted to the University of Notre Dame, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in French and Italian. She was integral to the evolution of the Middle School foreign language program, helping it grow from an option offered to 7th-graders to a fixed part of our spiraling curriculum, beginning in prekindergarten and continuing through the Upper School grades.

 

While it’s been more than 10 years since she has worked directly with students in the classroom, her important role as a division head affects students in a number of ways, including the hiring and development of great teachers and her oversight and work with committees to design or adopt new programs. In addition, Pam was charged with chairing the school's 2013–2020 Strategic Plan work, which has now evolved into educational priorities for University School.

 

Her upcoming departure will leave a definite void on campus (and her successor will have some big shoes to fill!) but we are excited for Pam to start this new chapter of her life. I hope you will take a couple of minutes to share a personal reflection or great story of Pam. But her work here is not done yet, and we look forward to celebrating her in many ways this school year!
